CENTRAL MINNESOTA CORVETTE ASSOCIATION
Greetings everyone!
This is a great time of year! The car is out, running strong, and we have a ton of events lined up,
with a few smaller ones yet to be tossed into the mix. It promises to be a great year! Looking forward to
seeing many of you at several of these. These are chances to just have great fun, hanging out with good
friends, other Corvette aficionados and making new friends. Im really looking forward to the Sunday, May
6, Cruise, and Brunch, in St. Stephen. Cris and Jeff always do a great job with this event!
Just a quick note that I made a mistake in my letter last month. The Country Chevrolet Mystery
Dinner Cruise (a good one!) is on Thursday not Friday. I had the May 31st date correct but erred on the day
of the week. Mary had it right in her event list.
Now, as we know, the CMCA gives Corvette owners a chance to interface with other Corvette
owners, talk and party, and so forth. In other words, it affords, for the most part, a mature group of people
the opportunity to interface with other adults sharing a love of, and common interest in, Corvettes. These
cars, however, are capable of many things other than pure performance and beauty. As many of you know,
and you all do now
, all five of my grandchildren are in the same elementary school in Monticello. So, I
now volunteer in that school five days a week, and love it. Actually, Ive been going into the kids classes
since preschool, but them being all together like this has been a peak. Anyway, May 9 is Explorer Day at the
school. Theres a ton of different things the kids could sign up for as far as a learning exercise goes.
Crafts, games, athletics, animals (including a horse), and yes, my Corvette (aka
Pewter Perfection
). I will
be hosting two, one-hour, sessions with the Corvette for the kids. They had to limit attendance as the car is
extremely popular at the school. The kids all know about it as I drive it in every chance I get. I will be dis-
cussing the car, showing it to them, revving it up and taking each ones picture sitting in the car, getting
them printed that evening and passed them out the next day. Several have talked to me and they are very
excited about it. Ive used pictures, in the car, in the past as a mechanism to get to some of those kids that
need a little ego boosting. They all loved it. These cars are more versatile than we think, sometimes. A
picture worth a thousand words? Absolutely!
If any of you have a favorite Corvette story, send it to Mary for the newsletter. It would be really
fun to see one of these every month. Think back to that first cruise, first parade, Corvette event, or special
things that have impressed, or moved you, with the car. Bet you have a fond memory!
May 19th finds us traveling up to Brainerd for Tom and Sue Thoeles Mystery Lunch Cruise. These
are always a good time with great friends, great food and Sue always has million-calorie desserts. There is
a notice in this newsletter about the event and you should have received an email from Tom with details.
People south of Brainerd will be meeting at Hennens Furniture, on 23, in St. Cloud, and caravanning up to
Randall to meet the Thoeles. We will be leaving Hennens at 9:30am, sharp. If you wish to travel up with us,
drop me a quick email at ereilly@tds.net so we know youre planning on joining the caravan. I will forward
all the names from this end to Tom and Sue.
As a side note, at the beginning of the season, I like to remind everyone how important it is that
you RSVP to club events. When we have a brunch, Mystery Cruise, picnic, etc., either reservations are
made, or food is bought and prepared, brought in a potluck fashion by responders, or an event is catered.
There is always a deadline for response, and generally, several notices will go out. We always hope for
great attendance, but need to know by the deadlines who is planning on coming. It just isnt fair to the indi-
viduals organizing an event, or people buying, or bringing food, if people show up who havent signed up,
much as wed like to see you/them. Try not to delay providing notification when an event strikes your fancy.
After you sign up, we certainly hope you can come, and plan for you accordingly, but, if you must, you can
also cancel, in a timely manner. It just makes planning so much easier and accurate. Thanks.
As a final note, last weekend a few of us were out on a cruise and swung into the Triple R restau-
rant in Kimball for a burger (excellent food, by the way). We noticed a sign on the door as we walked in that
announced that Mad Dog Vachon and Kenny J were going to be there to sign autographs. For the young-
sters who dont know who they are, they were professional wrestlers back in the days of Vern Gagne, Larry
Hennig, etc. (you may not know who they are either, come to think of it
). Anyway, back to my story
if
you thought that was something, who should come strolling in ten minutes later, completely unannounced,
but, Bobby P, otherwise known as, The Spatula (those of us in the club know him as Bob Prom). That was
all it took for Mad Dog and Kenny J to retreat to a far corner of the room as Bob immediately jumped to the
center of the room and began directing traffic around the bar, grilling the patrons (
), and signing a few
autographs himself. The man is a born traffic signal! That, however, is a story for another time. Good see-
ing you, Robert! Did I stretch it a bit here?
Take care of yourselves and really looking forward to seeing all of you at the CMCA Spring
Brunch & Cruise, Mystery Lunch Cruise and Mystery Dinner Cruise!
Later, Ed
